Five Year Plan
A. Healthy Mommy & Me / Mamá y Yo Saludable
Ø Reduce cases of malnutrition in babies 0-2 years in San Pablo and San Juan La Laguna by providing pregnant and lactating mothers with improved knowledge and access to food, nutritional supplements, emotional support and health services
Ø Contract a specialist/psychologist to provide mothers with mental and emotional support
Ø Increase the funds for food vouchers
Ø Increase the involvement of fathers in the program
Ø Improve education for new mothers with nutritional and emotional support
Ø Reduce cases of malnutrition in children ages 0-2 in San Pablo y San Juan
Ø Promote healthy by transmitting information about hygiene and malnutrition
Ø Improve the retention and attendance of participants in program
B. Operations
Ø Find land to construct a larger building in San Juan to accommodate support groups educational programs (especially Healthy Mommy & Me and “Let’s Walk Together”), cooking classes and staff meetings
Ø Locate a larger space close to the clinic in San Pablo to construct a Clinic annex and expand services and meetings
Ø Assure that new building in San Juan is handicapped accessible
C. Diabetes – “Let’s Walk Together” / Caminemos Juntos
Ø Minimize the impact of the diabetes epidemic in the communities of San Pablo and San Juan La Laguna through education, exercise, accompaniment and empowerment.
Ø Improve the retention and attendance of participants in program
Ø Support participants in reaching individual goals and group goals to maintain and improve their quality of life
D. High Impact Home Improvement Program (HIHI) / Vivienda Saludable
Ø Improving the health of low-income families in households through in-home interventions including water filters and stoves which improve the air and water quality in homes.
Ø Find volunteers to provide and continue virtual English lessons for promoters
Ø Expand program to respond to family’s basic housing needs (installing cement floors, roofs, bathrooms, etc).
Ø Provide subsidized replacement filters for families every two years
E. “Reaching Dreams” Scholarship Program / Alcanzando Sueños
Ø Break the cycle of poverty for young people from San Pablo La Laguna, by providing scholarships, academic tutoring and life-skill training to young people with limited economic resources from San Pablo La Laguna.
Ø Contract a teacher with a specialized skillset to direct and advance the curriculum for students at high school level
Ø Build a computer lab to provide students with computer access
Ø Include career development and vocational training for students at higher grade levels
Ø Provide internships and job placement for recent program graduates
F. Clinics
Ø Modify the clinic in San Pablo to create more office spaces for staff
Ø Expand dental services to San Pablo
Ø Certify the laboratory with the Ministry of Health to be able to provide more advanced laboratory testing for patients
Ø Increase patient access to diagnostics testing
Ø Recruit medical volunteer teams to train staff and attend patients
Ø Market and promote clinic services in neighboring communities
G. Adolescent Health
Ø Improve gender equality and prevent early pregnancy in adolescents from San Juan and San Pablo La Laguna through Comprehensive Education on Sexuality and Health
Ø Ensure that adolescents know about CSE issues and practice their sexual and reproductive rights
Ø Include parent and teacher education on adolescent health
Ø Produce health education videos to be broadcasted on social media and local cable channels
H. NEW Programs
Ø Create a Mental Health program to give staff, participants and clinic patients access to a therapy and other mental health services
Ø Launch a Women’s Health program in collaboration with U.S. Physicians to provide pap smears, HPV detection and other women’s preventative health services to complement current clinic programming
